Xmas Outreach Event for Children of Mexico

Hello All! An outreach event is being organized for our sister city Juarez, Chihuahua, and I would GREATLY appreciate everyone’s help! The event organizers are collecting old and new jackets, coats, blankets, gloves, and scarves that can be passed on to needy families in Juarez to get the families and children through these cold winter days. They have assigned a drop off day on December 16 at BEK Medical so anyone can drop off stuff there! If you cannot make it on the drop off date and would like to participate just comment on this post! Donations are also accepted. Just a small way we can touch these peoples hearts, and realize how blessed we are to have even a scarf! They really hope many of you participate and spread the word, a great way to spend the Holidays is giving to others.
Anyone who would like to go to Juarez on Christmas morning to distribute all of this personally to the families are more than welcome to come! You will need a passport, please post a message if interested!

Business Students for El Paso

Business students: Join the Regional Economic Development Association to discuss the role of the College of Business and UTEP in shaping El Paso’s future.

REDA will discuss its Spring trip to Phoenix, AZ and will discuss the progress of El Paso’s 2015 Downtown Plan. Students will then discuss different topics, including downtown revitalization, UTEP and Tier1 status, El Paso marketing and tourism, and the “regional identity.”

The forum’s objective is to start discussion within the CoBA student body and establish a plan for action to address the issues discussed.

On February 22, 2010 the UTEP Student Government Association voted to conduct a student referendum and inform the student body on the implementation of the Campus Life and Athletic Enhancement Initiative.

UTEPIA The Perfect UTEP Event

The Campus Activities Board (CAB) announces the return of the second annual UTEPIA set to take place Tuesday, March 9, 2010. UTEPIA is a block party-styled event held on the Geology Lawn that features an innovative fashion show and a Battle of the Bands.

Partakers of UTEPIA will be awarded with an assortment of free accessories & giveaways including sunglasses, dog tags and masks, all of which revolve around this year’s theme: Dirty, Beautiful, Rich.

The Battle of the Bands will consist of six performers in a Warped Tour style competition wherein one act performs while the next sets-up. The acts will be:

Akardia
Adair Lion
Manhattan Project
Sheeple

The XV Contemporary Mexican Literature Conference

“The Mexican Revolution in Contemporary Literature” runs March 4-6 at UTEP’s Thomas Rivera Conference Center. Scholars from the U.S., Mexico, and other parts of the world will meet at the University of Texas at El Paso to present papers on these issues. Panel discussions will also take place.

Teen Latinitas’ Leadership Institute

Latinas will host the monthly institute for young women interested in developing leadership skills.
The institute consists of monthly workshops on leadership methods, decision making skills, goal setting, public speaking, civic engagement, and volunteering. Participants attend monthly classes, go on field trips, meet positive women role models, learn about their cultural heritage, build confidence, and explore their own strengths.

The institute opens its doors beginning at 9 AM to 12:30 PM Saturday, February 27 at Latinitas Headquarters, 1359 Lomaland, Suite 502.

Membership is open to Hispanic high school girls in grades 9-12.
